Granulation/Extrusion Forming

Extrusion & Forming Capabilities

At IntoCeramics, our expertise in granulation and extrusion services is founded on a deep understanding of forming materials into desired shapes. Whether it’s creating uniform granules or intricate extruded shapes, our state-of-the-art processes and seasoned team ensure unparalleled precision and quality in every form.

Why Granulation & Extrusion Matter in Ceramic Manufacturing

Granulation and extrusion forming are essential for creating high-performance ceramic products. These forming methods influence the strength, porosity, and density of the final material, impacting everything from durability to performance in extreme environments. Choosing the right forming method ensures efficiency in production and consistency in product quality.

Granulation

IntoCeramics’ granulation capabilities provide a cutting-edge solution for transforming raw materials into uniform granules, enhancing the efficiency and quality of ceramic manufacturing processes.

Granulation is a widely used forming method in various ceramic manufacturing industries, such as catalysts, oilfield ceramics, and coatings applications. This process involves aggregating small particles into larger, granular structures, typically to improve the final product’s handling, storage, and performance characteristics.

Mixer Capabilities

The high-intensity mixing capabilities of our equipment ensure thorough and uniform distribution of granulating agents, resulting in improved product quality and consistency.

Granulation in ceramic manufacturing
  • Granulating, pelletizing, and agglomerating capabilities
  • High capacity
  • Exceptional mixing efficiency
  • Variable speed control
  • Diverse mixing applications
  • Consistent homogenous results
  • High sphericity and roundness

Capacity Options

Whether for large-scale manufacturing or smaller-scale applications, IntoCeramics offers the flexibility of two capacity options: 10-liter and 75-liter.

  • The 75-liter capacity mixer is ideal for larger-scale operations, offering a substantial volume for handling significant material quantities.
  • The 10-liter capacity mixer provides a more compact solution suitable for smaller batches or research and development purposes.

Extrusion

The extrusion forming services at IntoCeramics’ in-house facility offer a streamlined method for shaping and forming ceramic materials, ensuring precise and customized results for various manufacturing needs.

Extrusion forming is a versatile forming method widely employed in manufacturing processes, particularly in the production of various materials. In this method, a material is forced through a die to create a continuous profile or shape with a consistent cross-section.

Extrusion is valued for its efficiency in shaping complex geometries and producing products with uniform dimensions. The technique is known for its cost-effectiveness and ability to handle a wide range of materials, making it a key player in modern manufacturing processes.

Extrusion Forming Capabilities

Custom ceramic shaping techniques

IntoCeramics has the knowledge and ability to process your materials for extrusion forming by drying, milling, and pre-mixing, as well as complete processing after extrusion including physical material characterization, analytical testing, and thermal processing.

State-of-the-Art Equipment

Our JC Steele vacuum extruder is a highly versatile machine that can mix and form a wide variety of materials suitable for further processing or to sinter:

  • Plastic Materials
    • Clays and clay mixes
    • Fine-grained filter cakes with moderate plasticity arising from small particle size
  • Non-Plastics with appropriate binders (aqueous or non-aqueous / organic or inorganic)
    • Aluminum oxides and other technical ceramic powders
    • Mine waste (tailings)
    • Non-oxide minerals and ceramics
    • Minerals of all types
    • Many others

Profile shape extrusions can be produced with the proper die, or the material can be shredded to sizes convenient for handling. We offer many dies for initial and customized testing and development work.

Extrusions may be tailored for high, medium, or low density with vacuum capability.

The IntoCeramics extruder is suited for testing a few pounds but can be configured to produce larger quantities if needed.
